Former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, under the NDC government, Joseph Yamin, has challenged the District Chief Executive for Amansei West, Mr. William Asante Bediako to take legal action against him immediately if indeed his claim that he [Joseph Yamin] was engaged in illegal mining [Galamsey] activities under John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
The DCE, is alleged to have said on Abusua Nkommo hosted by Kwame Adinkrah last week that the former deputy sports minister was hugely involved in Galamsey during the NDC’s administration.
But reacting to the DCE’s allegation on Wednesday, the Ashanti Regional NDC chairman hopeful has dared the aforementioned to quickly take legal action against him to shame him for in involvement in Galamsey.
”Kwame I am challenging he [William Asante Bediako] to take legal action against me with evidence to back his claim that I was doing Galamsey we were in office” Yamin told Abusua Nkommo host Kwame Adinkrah.
He added ”He’s a DCE and I am daring him to take me on since his government is in power. He should keep mute because he is rather doing Galamsey ”.
Yamin disclosed in an interview few months ago that he lost his job because of his stance against illegal mining in the region.
In the said interview, Joseph Yamin indicated that he abandoned his hopes of enforcing the elimination of galamsey operation due to persecution from strong people within and outside the then NDC government, the armed forces, and chiefs.
He accused some senior officials and prominent people of allegedly engineering his “downfall” because of his firm anti-galamsey stance.
Yamin further stated that his detractors felt uncomfortable with his anti-graft crusade and hence the reasons why he was sacked and subsequently replaced.
“The level of graft and other malpractices was so deep-rooted in the country and when I started to fight the vice in my capacity as chairman of the anti galamsey committee, some senior officials and members of the then opposition NPP, did not like the move and instead conspired to ensure my downfall,” he said.
