OFFICIALS OF MTN App Challenge 5.0 say they earmarked GH¢20,000 as the reward for the woman who would be adjudged the ‘Best Female Developer’ in this year’s contest to encourage more females to participate in the contest.
Mr Bless Sefenu Agordjo, Senior Manager of Products and Services, in charge of the MTN App Challenge, explained that after a road show, they got 250 entries with ideas which participants were asked to build on.
“We got about 95 projects, out of which we got 83 mobile apps, six animated and six ‘Internet of Things (IoT)’. The participants came to meet the judges for auditions and were screened to 48 to qualify for round two,” he explained.
He added that the participants, who were qualified for round two, would be screened and the qualified winners would go for the final stage on June 6, 2018.
He disclosed that the competitors are selected from senior high schools, tertiary institutions, and freelancers to develop apps and solutions in the categories of mobile apps, Internet of Things (IoT), and animated videos.
Mr Agordjo said in all, eight females have qualified for round two and expressed the hope that most of them would qualify for the final stage.
The judges for the contests are Ethel Cofie, Alain Ageasor, Yaw Boakye and Eyram Tawia.
