Asuofua: Insecurity on the rise as Police bemoan lack of logistics to fight criminals

The rate of robbery and murder cases have increased immensely at Asuofua Community and its environs in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region following an invasion by ‘wee smokers’ and criminals in the area.

Chiefs and the people in the community have attributed the inability of the Asuofua Police Command to win the fight against Criminals and Wee Smokers in the area to lack of logistics.

The Asuofua Police station have eight (8) police officers protecting about 10 communities namely Asuofua, Asamang, Achiase, Amoamang, Ohwim, Amanfrom, Atafoa without any patrol vehicle to help them discharge duties effectively.

A Source in the Police Station disclosed to our outfit that the Asuofua Police station has one cell accommodating both male and female criminals.

“Because we have one cell for both females and males, we always find it difficult to detain wrongdoers. We have no patrol vehicle to aid in patrol duties and sometimes we have to walk to make arrest if we didn’t get tax” the source said.

Some of the residents who spoke to Abusua FM News reporter Osei Kwadwo indicated they are living in a state of fear due to the increasing rate of robbery and murder cases in the Community.

According to them, walking in the night as a result of the alarming rate of robbery of late.

“The robbers are tormenting us because when they approach you and you didn’t give them what they want they will kill you. Is the duty of the police to protect us from the robbers but we can say they (Police) are even afraid of the robbers than we the civilians because they have no logistics to fight them” they said.

One victim Blessing Adu speaking to Osei Kwadwo said he was stabbed by the robbers when he resisted to give them what they want.

He said “I was on my way coming home when I meet 4 four boys holding weapons and they told me to surrender. I refused to surrender and one of the stab me with his knife and they took away all my belongings. Thank God I am still alive” he said.

Meanwhile the Former Assembly Man for Asuofua-Asamang electoral area Osei Kwaku Michael speaking on behalf of the authorities in the area said there is no way the police can deal with the robbers and Wee Smokers in the community without logistics and patrol vehicle.

“The Police are doing what they can to protect us from the robbers but the logistics are not there. The insecurity is getting out of hands in this community. Even the robbers don’t afraid Asuofua Police Officers again” he said.

He therefore appealed to government, stakeholders to come to Asuofua Police aid by providing them with logistics and patrol vehicle to enable them fight robbers vigorously in the community.
