ECG is not sold staff are safe- MD Rubbish sold Rumors

Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Engineer Samuel Boakye-Appiah, has rubbished wide spread rumors that government has off-loaded the company to the forest strategic investors.
He stressed that putting the largest electricity distributor under private care for 20 years partnership agreement is not a sale and that government will still own the assets of the ECG.
According to him, the company will continue to exist as a national asset to distribute quality and affordable power to the customer population of about 3.5 billion in the six regions of the country.
He noted that the ECG Financial and Operational Turnaround Project of the government was aimed to strengthen the governance and management of ECG by bringing in an acceptable concessionaire to make investment designed to reduce technical, commercial, and collection losses and improve service quality of the company.
This partnership, he noted will transform the ECG in terms of technology in power distribution, adding that “Let us seize the opportunity together to improve the power situation in our dear country.
“I wish to take this opportunity to assure our stakeholders that ECG will continue to exist as a Ghana electric utility.
“ECG has not been sold contrary to what others believe. With the introduction of the concessionaire to invest in, manage and operate our distribution asset, ECG will continue to exist albeit with a different focus.  The concessionaire will only manage sale of power, billing, mitre reading among others” Mr. Boakye-Appiah assured.
Mr. Boakye-Appiah who was speaking at the national thanks given service of ECG’s 50th-anniversary celebration in Kumasi promised the company’s commitment to being more committed to ensuring quality and affordable power delivery in the country.
The anniversary’s thanks given service was attended by  directors of ECG, government officials, energy experts, consultants, and the media among staff members of the company.
The theme for the anniversary is: “50 Years of Powering the Socio-Economic Growth and Development of Ghana.”
