[PHOTOS] Fiorentina fans turn Florence purple as they say goodbye to Davide Astori at his funeral

Thousands of fans gathered in Florence for the funeral of Davide Astori on Thursday, who died suddenly at the age of 31.

In addition, his Fiorentina team-mates were in attendance as were members of the Juventus team that beat Tottenham in London on Wednesday night.

The club’s colours were on full display in in the city and fans held scarves as Astori’s body arrived at the Basilica di Santa Croce.

As his coffin was carried out of the church, chants of ‘there’s only one captain” could be heard.
