ABOUT 20 homes at Amanase -Aboabo in the Ayensuano district of the Eastern Region have been ripped off by rainstorm displacing estimated 60 residents mostly poor peasant farmers.
Also, two church pavilion buildings belonging to Presbyterian Church and Church of Pentecost collapsed.
Officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), led by the District Director, Mr Joseph Okai Djan on Monday visited the affected communities for assessment and took advantage to hold a durbar with the inhabitants for awareness creation on disaster.
The director asked residents to renovate their buildings most of which were identified to be in dilapidated state and nearing collapse.
He said NADMO does not have the capacity to provide enough relief items for disaster victims, hence is particular about prevention measures; therefore it is imperative for residents to hire carpenters and masons to renovate their buildings lacking structural integrity.
The director hinted that he would meet leaders of churches in the district on the need to ensure that their church buildings -either temporal shed or permanent structures- are constructed well to prevent disasters considering the number of persons who congregate to worship.
