The security of the citizenry is of utmost importance to My administration and as a a result everything required to secure same will be provided by government to the security agencies, President Akufo Addo has stated.
Speaking at a brief ceremony to re-launch operation calm life at the Police Training School at Tesano, President Akufo Addo said his administration has initiated a new program to ensure that operation calm life which was first launched during the Kuffour administration but has suffered several logistical constraints is sustained this time round.
To demonstrate government’s commitment to the re-launch of the operation, the President presented 200 Toyota pickup vehicles and 300 motor bikes to the Police Command to support the activities of operation calm life. He pledged that extra logistical support items will soon be procured for the Police Service.
*Appeal to the Judiciary*
The Minister for Defence, Dominic NITIWUL, in his remarks called on the Judiciary to ensure quick prosecution of all criminals who will be apprehended as a result of the revived operation calm life.
*Operation Calm Life*
Operation Calm life is a joint effort carried out by personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service. The operation consist of coordinated exercises aimed at minimizing armed robbery and related crimes to their barest minimum.
The operation usually takes the form of a more holistic approach through a coordinated system of standing patrols, temporary and permanent roadblocks and checkpoints that would take place around the clock.
Although “Operation Calm Life” was launched by the security agencies in 2001 by the Kufour administration , it had become necessary to re-launch it as a result of the resurgence of armed robberies and other social vices.
