There are two kinds of pride, good and bad. ‘Good pride’ represents our dignity and self-respect. ‘Bad pride’ is the deadly sin of superiority that is mostly borne our of ego and arrogance.
On any day, I will choose humility over pride, because Pride makes us artificial and humility makes us real. A man’s pride can be his downfall, and he needs to learn when to turn to others for support and guidance, but what do we see most times? Ego!
It’s easy to forget, as a leader, that when employees don’t get the wide view, not only does the purpose of their employment escape them, but it can also lead to real frustration of the job.
There comes a time when it becomes extremely hard to feel part of something because pride has taken over a substantial part of you. But who suffers? -The proud and arrogant of course.
WHY ARE ARE SOME PEOPLE UNGRATEFUL?
Pride: – It sways their conscience from offering appreciation and gratitude when necessary, but a humble mind is ever ready to offer profuse appreciation for little acts of kindness.
Many people have fallen from grace to grass due to unbridled pride and arrogance. They are usually carried away by the little glory that comes their and feel they have arrived.
Little do they know that upon reaching the very top, the only way out left for them is going down. So beloved, you see, Pride is results emanating from a man who thinks so highly of himself than others.
WHY IS PRIDE A PROBLEM WITH HUMANS?
Pride has kept many people from accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior. Admitting sin and acknowledging that in our own strength we can do nothing to inherit eternal life is a constant stumbling block for prideful people.
We are not to boast about ourselves, if we want to boast, then we are to proclaim the glories of God. What we say about ourselves means nothing in God’s work. It is what God says about us that makes the difference (2 Corinthians 10:18).
In our every day life, some people inwardly direct emotion that can easily offend others and carries with it a connotation that displays an inflated sense of one’s own worth or personal status and typically makes one feel a sense of superiority over others and can easily make someone look condescendingly at others. PRIDE!!
WHY IS PRIDE SO SINFUL?
Pride is giving ourselves the credit for something that God has accomplished. Pride is taking the glory what belongs to God alone and keeping it for ourselves.
Pride is essentially self-worship. Anything we accomplish in this world would not have been possible were it not for God enabling and sustaining us.
“What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?” (1 Corinthians 4:7). That is why we give God the glory, He alone deserves it.
Conceit, egotism, vanity, vainglory, all over one’s own appearance or status in life and not just something that’s been accomplished. Pride must die in you, or nothing of heaven can live in you.
PRIDE IN RELATIONSHIPS
There’s a saying that “if you can’t stop thinking about a person don’t let them slip away”. But what causes us to let people we love go? PRIDE!
Pride is a relationship murderer. It’s quite surprising when people say they can think of a person all day and you still wouldn’t hear from them. Put that pride aside now or you will end up playing second fiddle to another person.
How do you feel about Pride? have you ever had it end a relationship, and how did you deal with it? Oh and how has it changed future and current relationships? Pride has proved to be the mother arrogance and all forms of egoistic behavior.
Most people find it difficult relating to people all in the name of what I call the “Pride in you”. Why walk about like you don’t need anybody to compliment your life?
The other day, a boss sanctioned a subordinate for insubordination and instead of him (i.e subordinate) going to apologise in order to maintain a cordial working relationship with his superior, the subordinate went home expecting the boss to call him back.
He failed to think wisely because he was carried away by pride and arrogance.
Also, elderly persons must be conscious of the wrong they perpetuate on young ones apologise accordingly for peaceful co existence and stop local mentality of “Panin de Panin”.
Marriages are breaking because the man is the head. You are the head so whatever you say must be final, right? Let freedom and peace reign in that house!
This same man who was once the richest in the society now has to go for help from those he helped but burying his pride is what’s eating him up therefore not knowing how to ask for help.
Most Pastors will never avail themselves to be advised by church leaders. All he says is “I’m the head Pastor take it or leave it!, God called me and not you!” Man of God, souls are being lost, so please shine those eyes and bury that Pride for the church is the Lord’s and not yours!
Someone’s children have gone astray and are going astray in the name of “I’m capable of taking care of my kids”, meanwhile that brother or sister of yours has the means of helping them build up on that career ladder. WHY ARE U STOPPING IT? BURY THAT PRIDE!
Through pride we are ever deceiving ourselves. But deep down below the surface of the average conscience a still, small voice says to us, something is out of tune.
Pride is the mask that deface our otherwise beautiful appearance.
LET’S UNMASK NOW, Na Onipa Ns3 hwee.
