A Kumasi Circuit Court 4 presided over by John Ekow Mensah has remanded two prison inmates into prison custody for allegedly possessing dry leave substances suspected to be cannabis.
The suspects, Amadu Shaibu alias Nasiru aged 39, and Kwadwo Poku alias Mahala aged 39, already serving ten year jail terms respectively for previous crimes are to spend two additional days in prison remand.
The accused persons are to reappear on May 19, 2017 for hearing.
According to the facts of the case as presented by the police prosecutor, Felix Akowuah, the complainants in the case are police personnel of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit, Kumasi.
On August 19, 2016 at about 10:20am, the complainants embarked on operation at Bantama and its environs to flash out illicit narcotic drug peddlers and users.
During the course, intelligence indicated that four (4) men were under a tree in a nearby bush at Race course, around Bantama in Kumasi processing and wrapping the substances suspected to be cannabis with transparent polythene bags.
According to the prosecution, the complainants proceeded to the scene and arrested the two (2) suspects immediately.
Chief Inspt. Felix Akowuah further told the court, the police had already taken the substance to the forensic lab and per the report, it has been confirmed that the dry leave substance is cannabis.
